Type material: Unknown, possibly lost.
Type locality: France: probably Montpellier ( Dugès 1834) .
Geographical distribution: Southwestern Palaearctic in Netherlands and England, and around the Mediterranean for Marocco, Italy, Spain, France, and Syria, ( Dugès 1834; GBIF 2022; Gerecke 1991; Di Sabatino et al. 2010).
Distribution in Portugal: South: Alentejo, in Ribeira de Odivelas ( Lundblad 1956).
Ecological notes: Freshwater, at standing and temporary waters; present in plants, such as Batrachium spp. , Myriophyllum spp. , Nymphea spp. ( Lundblad 1956) ; Larvae tend to attach to the abdomen of hydrophilid beetles, such as Laccobius moraguesi Régimbart, 1898 , Hemisphaera guignoti Schäfer, 1975 and Hydrochus grandicollis Kiesenwetter, 1870 ( Di Sabatino et al. 2010), as well as parasitic on odonates insects ( Dugès 1834).
