Type. Holotype: ♂, China, Hainan Province, Mt. Wuzhi , 18°86' N, 109°67' E, 700 m, 10 Apr 2013, leg. Yinghui Sun, Wei Guan & Tengteng, Liu, genitalia slide no. LKL13264.
Diagnosis. This new species is similar to H. gangweonensis in male genitalia. It can be separated from the latter species by the straight gnathos, the folded valva with the sacculus longer than the cucullus and extending to the median part of the cucullus, and the length of bristle cluster of the sacculus, which is about equal to or longer than the cucullus. In H. gangweonensis the gnathos is curved, the valva is not folded lengthwise, the sacculus is not expanded and is shorter than the cucullus, and the bristle cluster is shorter than the cucullus but longer than the sacculus. Hiroshiinoueana wuzhishanica can be easily distinguished from H. inequivalva and H. stellifera by the relatively narrow tegumen and the identical bristle clusters on the left and right sacculus in the male genitalia. In addition, the cucullus is somewhat crescent-shaped in this new species, whereas the cucullus is broad and rounded in H. inequivalva and triangular in H. stellifera Kawabe ; the dorso-basal spiny lobe of the valva is rounded in H. wuzhishanica , whereas it is narrow and elongate in H. inequivalva .
Description. Adult ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–3 ). Head: Vertex rough scaled, brown suffused with pale brown. Antenna brown, with scattered dark brown scales. Labial palpus porrect, brown mixed with pale brown; median segment expanded ventrally.
Thorax: Pale brown suffused with yellowish brown, with scattered metallic-blue spots; posterior crest inconspicuous. Hind tibia in male not enlarged, bearing long black scales on inner surface of basal half ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–3 ). Forewing length 6.5 mm; elongate and triangular, costa slightly arched, apex blunt; upperside ground color dark brown, with metallic blue spots throughout, pattern elements dark brown and inconspicuous; most costal strigulae inconspicuous, covered by metallic spots, striae from strigulae 3–7 indistinct, extending toward to dorsum and tornus; fringe dark brown; underside pale brown, area of overlap with hindwing paler. Hindwing upperside pale grayish brown, costa white, anal roll present and with long white scales inside; fringe pale grey; underside pale tawny.
Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 4–5 ) weakly sclerotized. Tegumen broad, rounded posteriorly. Uncus small, somewhat semicircular, hairy distally. Socius laterally plate-like, densely spined. Gnathos simple, represented by two straight, narrow, lateral bands. Valvae symmetrical; basal excavation distinct; each valva folded longitudinally, sacculus covered partly by cucullus and a large densely spiny lobe protruding inward from base of cucullus, somewhat rectangular and rounded, distinctly broader and slightly shorter than cucullus, with ventral edge adjacent to cucullus concave and aciculate, spines on lobe short and strong, pointing towards phallus; cucullus narrow, somewhat crescent-shaped, spiny; sacculus broad and long, apical part reaching about mid-length of cucullus, bearing a cluster of long bristles outside of mid-length of ventral edge, which is equal in length to sacculus and longer than cucullus. Anellus well sclerotized, large, broadly surrounding phallus; phallus simple, moderate, narrowed to distal end, pointed apically, without cornuti. Vinculum simple, slightly broadened.
Female unknown.
Molecular characterization. Partial mitochondrial gene COI sequence with GenBank accession number MG983839 View Materials . The DNA barcode sequences for this and the species described below are the first barcode data for the genus Hiroshiinoueana submitted to GenBank.
Etymology. The specific name is from the type locality, Mt. Wuzhi, Hainan Province.
