To judge by the numerous finds of this long-tailed, easily recognizable species, which is smaller a n d more slender than D. agilis, it is a very common inhabitant of the soil of Jan Mayen.
The male, at first discovered a n d described b y Steiner (1916 (3) pp. 99-100), is probably very rare. Among forty - seven females from different localities only a single typical male was f o u n d in a sample from B2 (21). Besides the anal papilla, situated a litt,le in front o f the anus, there is a row of twelve v e r y small papillae, partly situated at unequal distances from each other.
