Proarna squamigera Uhler, 1895 View in CoL

Proarna squamigera Uhler 1895: 56 View in CoL . ( Saint Vincent Island).

Diagnosis. This is the second of the larger Proarna species in the Lesser Antilles with with body lengths of 22.0– 24.7 mm and fore wing lengths of 30.5–33.2 mm. Proarna hilaris and Proarna invaria can be quickly separated based on their smaller body and fore wing lengths. The costal margin is smoothly curved at the base and there is no infuscation on the veins separating the apical cells in this species both of which are absent in Proarna olivieri .

Distribution. The species has been recorded from the Antilles and St. Vincent Island ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2013). Uhler (1895) reported the species being collected at two or three localities on St. Vincent. All specimens studied have been from St. Vincent Island and the species may be endemic to that island.

Boulard (2001) lists the species from Guadeloupe and Martinique but confusingly refers to the “homeland” of Proarna invaria as Saint Vincent which is, in actuality, the type locality of Proarna squamigera . For this reason, Proarna squamigera is considered not to have been collected in either Guadeloupe or Martinique. The range of Proarna squamigera is considered to be restricted to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
