Gasteruption loiaconoae n. sp. ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 )
Etymology. The epithet for this species is in honor of Dr. Marta Loiácono, Museo de La Plata.
Diagnosis. Differs from G. tenue by the propleuron shorter than the pronotum ( Fig. 16e View FIGURE 16 ); the head as long as wide ( Fig. 16a View FIGURE 16 ); and the fore wing discal cell subtrapezoidal (as in Fig. 1f View FIGURE 1 ). Differs from other Neotropical species by the mesepisternum with ill-defined areoles ventrally ( Fig. 16d View FIGURE 16 ); the mesoscutum rugulose, without punctation ( Fig. 16c View FIGURE 16 ); the hind tibia entirely dark brown; the ovipositor sheath longer than the metasoma, and dark brown, with apex yellow brown ( Fig. 16e View FIGURE 16 ); and the fore wing discal cell present.
Description. Female ( Fig. 16e View FIGURE 16 ). Length: 13.0 mm (n=1); ovipositor sheath length 0.74 × body length.
Head. Subtrapezoidal in dorsal view, as long as wide ( Fig. 16a View FIGURE 16 ), punctulate; mandible pre-apical tooth distinct; malar space short, almost separated from gena; posterior ocellus inserted at the level of upper eye margin; occipital carina relatively wide dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 16b View FIGURE 16 ). Head length 1.27 × eye length; eye length 17.5 × malar space; distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 2.00 × distance between posterior ocelli; 1 st flagellomere 1.00 × as long as scape, 1.56 × as long as pedicel, 0.54 × as long as 2 nd flagellomere. Color: black, clypeus with anterior portion lighter than remaining.
Mesosoma. Propleuron imbricate; pronotal process distinct; pronotum imbricate, area between lobes crenulate; mesonotum rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 16d View FIGURE 16 ); mesoscutum and mesoscutelum rugulose ( Fig. 16c View FIGURE 16 ); mesepisternum imbricate dorsally and with ill-defined areoles ventrally; mesepimeron scrobiculate; metapleuron rugulose to areolate, ventral region with a reduced smooth portion; propodeum areolate to rugulose, longitudinal carina distinct; metacoxa rugulose, without transversal striae. Mesosoma (excluding propleuron) 1.97 × as long as high; propleuron 1.68 × longer than its largest wide, 0.79 × pronotum length; metacoxa 2.17 × as long as wide; metatibia 3.40 × as long as wide, 1.38 × as long as femur, 3.51 × as long as 1 st tarsomere. Fore wing discal cell subtrapezoidal; hind wing with 3 hamuli, not equidistant. Color: propleuron black; mesonotum black to red brown; pronotum, mesopleuron and metapleuron red brown, metapleuron with some black areas; propodeum red brown; fore and middle legs with coxa black, trochanter, femur and tibia red brown, tibia with a yellow longitudinal stripe, 1 st tarsomere yellow, with apex red brown, remaining tarsomeres dark brown; hind leg with coxa black, trochanter, femur and tibia dark brown, subbasal portion of tibia yellow, tarsus dark brown.
Metasoma. Imbricate, 2.29 × as long as mesosoma; subgenital sternun notched, Y-shaped; ovipositor sheath 1.28 × as long as metasoma. Color: dark brown; ovipositor sheath dark brown, with apex yellow brown.
Male. Similar to female.
