Gasteruption tenue Kieffer, 1922 ( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 )

Gasteruption tenue Kieffer, 1922: 208 (description); Hedicke, 1939: 36 (catalog); De Santis, 1967: 95 (catalog).

Diagnosis. Differs from G. loiaconoae by the propleuron longer than or as long as the pronotum ( Fig. 23e View FIGURE 23 ); the head longer than wide ( Fig. 23a View FIGURE 23 ); and the fore wing discal cell subtriangular or petiolate (as in Figs. 1i–j View FIGURE 1 ). Differs from other Neotropical species by the mesepisternum rugulose ventrally, usually without defined areoles ( Fig. 23d View FIGURE 23 ); the mesoscutum rugulose, without punctation ( Fig. 23c View FIGURE 23 ); the hind tibia entirely dark brown; the ovipositor sheath longer than the metasoma, and dark brown, with apex yellow brown ( Fig. 23e View FIGURE 23 ); and the fore wing discal cell present.

Redescription. Female ( Fig. 23e View FIGURE 23 ). Length: 10.4 mm (7.2–13.9 mm) (n=27); ovipositor sheath length 0.83 (0.71–1.06) × body length.

Head. Subtrapezoidal in dorsal view, longer than wide ( Fig. 23a View FIGURE 23 ), imbricate; mandible pre-apical tooth distinct; malar space short, almost separated from gena; posterior ocellus inserted behind or at the level of upper eye margin; occipital carina relatively wide dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 23b View FIGURE 23 ). Head length 1.42 (1.29–1.53) × eye length; eye length 22.37 (15.25–30.00) × malar space; distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 1.90 (1.55–2.67) × distance between posterior ocelli; 1 st flagellomere 1.04 (0.91–1.25) × as long as scape, 1.30 (1.11– 1.71) × as long as pedicel, 0.46 (0.33–0.67) × as long as 2 nd flagellomere. Color: black, clypeus with anterior portion lighter than remaining, antenna dark brown.

Mesosoma. Propleuron imbricate; pronotal process distinct to short; pronotum imbricate, area between lobes rugulose; mesonotum rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 23d View FIGURE 23 ); mesoscutum and mesoscutelum rugulose ( Fig. 23c View FIGURE 23 ); mesepisternum rugulose dorsally and rugulose (rarely areolate) ventrally; mesepimeron scrobiculate; metapleuron rugulose to areolate, ventral region with a reduced smooth or rugulose portion; propodeum areolate, longitudinal carina distinct to ill-defined; metacoxa without transversal striae. Mesosoma (excluding propleuron) 2.12 (1.88– 2.66) × as long as high; propleuron 1.97 (1.61–2.42) × longer than its largest wide, 1.11 (1.00–1.28) × pronotum length; metacoxa 2.48 (2.00–2.92) × as long as wide; metatibia 4.13 (3.65–4.59) × as long as wide, 1.47 (1.42– 1.54) × as long as femur, 3.35 (2.94–3.66) × as long as 1 st tarsomere. Fore wing discal cell subtriangular or petiolate; hind wing with 3 hamuli, not or equidistant. Color: propleuron and mesonotum black; pronotum yellow brown to red brown; mesepisternum black, mesepimeron and metapleuron yellow brown to black; propodeum black dorsally to yellow brown ventrally (or entirely black); fore and middle legs with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia red brown, tibia with a yellow longitudinal stripe, 1 st tarsomere yellow brown, remaining tarsomeres yellow brown to dark brown; hind leg with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia dark brown, subbasal portion of tibia yellow, tarsus dark brown.

Metasoma. Imbricate, 2.72 (2.43–2.90) × as long as mesosoma; subgenital sternun notched, Y-shaped; ovipositor sheath 1.36 (1.23–1.54) × as long as metasoma. Color: dark brown; ovipositor sheath dark brown, with apex yellow brown.

Male. Similar to female.
