Borneola peregrina (Weise) , new combination

Morphosphaera peregrina Weise, 1913: 222 ; Weise, 1924: 129 (list); Laboissière, 1930: 361 (list); Wilcox, 1971: 220 (list); Kimoto, 1990: 216 (list).

Type Material. Holotype ♀ ( MNHUB, by monotypus), labeled: “ Palawan / Bacuit [h, w] // Collected by / C. M. Weber [p, w] // Acc. No. [p] 11800 [h] / Lot / Bu.of Sci., P.I [p, w] // Morphosphaera / peregrina m [h, w] // SYNTYPUS / Morphosphaera / peregrina Weise, 1913 / labelled by MNHUB 2015 ”.

Remarks. This species is different from Morphosphaera by possessing much more elongate antennomeres III–IX that extend over half the length of the elytra, the elytral epipleuron abbreviated in the basal 1/3 (elytral epipleuron strongly narrowed at basal 1/3 and extremely narrow from basal 1/3 to apex in Morphosphaera ), and the preapical maxillary palpomere as large as apical one (much larger than apical palpomere in Morphosphaera ). These characters fit the generic definition of Borneola proposed by Mohamedsaid (1998). Borneola species lack a spine at the apex of the metatibia (spine present in Morphosphaera ). However, Borneola peregrina has one spine on the apex of the metatibiae that is also present in specimens of B. hijau Mohamedsaid, 1998 . Mohamedsaid’s observation may be incorrect but the resolving this problem is beyond the scope of this study.

Diagnosis. Borneola peregrina is similar to B. mohamedsaidi Takizawa, 2011 and B. variabilis Mohamesaid, 1998 in sharing the brown body, but differs in possessing black prothorax and head (brown prothorax and head in B. mohamedsaidi and B. variabilis ), black antenna with white apical antennomere (black antenna with two apical antennomeres white in B. mohamedsaidi ), completely brown antenna in B. variabilis ), and blackish brown legs (brown legs in B. mohamedsaidi and B. variabilis ).
