Derivation of speci W c epithet
This new species of Physiomorphus is named for the relative narrowness of the body.
Diagnosis, adult
This species may be separated from its congeners by the following diagnostic combination: last maxillary palpomere only very slightly expanded distally; lateral margins of pronotal disc subparallel; pronotal depressions very shallow, joined together; penultimate tarsomere without conspicuous ventral lobe.
Description, adult
Characters of Physiomorphus , with the following speci®c features: Body elongate (TL/GEW 2.77±3.51), subparallel-sided. Head. Scape relatively short, submoniliform; antennomere 2 short, moniliform, about half length of scape; antennomere 3 sub®liform; antennomeres 4±10 moniliform, 9±10 slightly serrated; antennomere 11 short, distinctly narrowed beyond midlength; last maxillary palpomere very slightly expanded distally, not distinctly securiform. Pronotum distinctly wide (GPW/PL 1.55±1.64), narrower to slightly wider than head (GPW/GHW 0.93±1.13); lateral margins of pronotal disc subparallel, slightly narrowed at anterior margin; discal depressions very shallow and poorly de®ned, joined medially; punctation somewhat irregular and moderately ®ne, not umbilicate; setation very sparse. Elytra moderately convex, without suggestions of longitudinal costae; vestiture very sparse, not obscuring moderately dense and coarse punctation; apical binding patch slightly visible dorsally. Abdomen. Sexual setae long, piceous to black, at least half length of V2, directed posteriorly, almost subparallel to surface of V2; male genitalia with paramere with moderately deep sinuation, beginning slightly distal of midlength. Colour. Entire body piceous with ventral mouthparts and elytra slightly lighter than rest of body.
Diagnosis, mature larva
Length: 12.3 mm, width: 1.8 mm. Abdomen. A pair of longitudinal asperities on terga II±IV and on sterna II±V; asperities curvate mediad; tergal asperities with 7±9 small teeth; sternal asperities with 8±14 teeth. Urogomphal plate (®gure 20) with scattered setae; a dorsal pair of short setae on median anterior region; anterior angles rounded and slightly produced; lateral margins almost straight, converging slightly posteriad, a pair of tubercles near anterior angle; posterior margin slightly concave, bearing a bicameral pit on median region, not produced close to urogomphi; urogomphi short, apices acute.
Diagnosis, pupa
Length: 6.6 mm, width: 1.7 mm. Similar to pupa of P. subcostulatus but diOEering by absence of the dorsal setae on the abdomen.
