Pachybrachis nigricornis (Say) (RelatiVely Secure)

Pachybrachis nigricornis is a highly variable species with individuals ranging from all black to yellow with black stripes ( Barney 2016b). In Illinois the striped phenotype has only been found on hill prairies, while the black phenotype has been found in many habitats, periodically in conjunction with the striped version (Fults Hill Prairie). Two plant associations were confirmed for the striped version at Meredosia Hill Prairie: Dalea purpurea Vent. and Pediomelum tenuiflorum (Pursh) A.N. Egan ( Fabaceae ). The black version has not been found at Meredosia. The black and striped versions may be utilizing different host plants.
