Guadalcanaria notabilis superciliaris Mayr, 1932: 15 View in CoL (Epi Island, New Hebrides).

Now Glycifohia notabilis superciliaris ( Mayr, 1932) View in CoL . See Salomonsen, 1967: 431, Bregulla, 1992: 243–244, Dickinson, 2003: 440, and Higgins et al., 2008: 631.

HOLOTYPE: AMNH 212878 About AMNH , adult male, collected on Epi Island , 16.43S, 168.15E ( USBGN, 1974c), Vanuatu (5 New Hebrides), on 4 August 1926, by Virginia Correia. From the Whitney South Sea Expedition (no. 21786). GoogleMaps

COMMENTS: In the original description, Mayr cited the AMNH number of the holotype and the range of superciliaris that included the following islands in Vanuatu, specimens from which are paratypes: Epi, AMNH 212879–212885 About AMNH , 212897–212902 About AMNH , 213634–213636 About AMNH , 221789 About AMNH (11 males, six females) ; Paama (5 Pauuma), AMNH 212886– 212896 About AMNH , 213637 About AMNH , 213638 About AMNH (six males, seven females) ; Ambrym , AMNH 216185–216194 About AMNH , 216206 About AMNH (three males, eight females) ; Malakula (5 Malekula), AMNH 213639–213645 About AMNH (five males, two females) ; Pentacose (5 Pentecost), AMNH 216195–216203 About AMNH , 218407 About AMNH (six males, four females) ; Maewo (5 Aurora), AMNH 218388–218392 About AMNH (three males, two females). Of these paratypes, the following were exchanged: AMNH 216202 About AMNH to J. Berlioz in October 1932 (presumably now in MNHN) ; AMNH 216185 About AMNH and 216187 to Cleveland Museum in January 1932 ; AMNH 216188 About AMNH to BBM in January 1932 ; AMNH 212900 About AMNH , 216189 About AMNH to ANSP ; AMNH 216191 About AMNH to USNM in January 1932 ; and AMNH 216193 About AMNH to ZMB in January 1932. The publication of superciliaris was in February 1932 ; presumably these exchanges were made after Mayr’s manuscript was completed.

Salomonsen (1967: 431) included this species in his large genus Phylidonyris , and this was followed by Bregulla (1992: 243– 244). Dickinson (2003: 439) used Mathews’ name Glycifohia , citing Wolters (1979: 260) and Boles and Longmore (1985), and this was followed by Higgins et al. (2008: 631).
