TYPE LOCALITY: Nepal .
DISTRIBUTION: N. Arabia to S. China, and Hainan Isl. (SW) and Malay Peninsula. Introduced to the West Indies, Hawaiian Isis. ( U.S.A.), and many other tropical regions.
COMMENT: Includes palustris; see Ewer, 1973, The Carnivores, p. 405; Michaelis, 1972, Saugetierk. Mitt., 20: 106; Wenzel and Haltenorth, 1972, Saugetierk. Mitt., 20:121. Probably conspecific with javanicus ; see Bechthold, 1939, Z. Saugetierk., 14: 147; but also see comment under javanicus .
