Mimothestus atricornis Pu, 1999 View in CoL
( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 9 )
Mimothestus atricornis Pu, 1999: 78 View in CoL –85.
Female: Length 15.5 mm, humeral width 4.5 mm. Body black, covered with dense, dark yellow to lutescent pubescence on head, pronotum and scutellum. Elytron covered with dense, irregular dark ochraceous pubescence, mottled with black spots. Antenna black, with dense fringe of long black hairs ventrally. Head, pronotum and basal half of elytron covered with sparse, black erect hairs. Venter and leg covered with thin, yellowish grey pubescence.
Head finely punctate, vertex depressed; frons subquadrate, with a smooth, longitudinal median sulcus extending to occiput. Lower eye lobe longer than broad, twice as long as gena. Antenna gradually narrowed to apex, 1.3 times as long as body; antennal tubercle raised, scape cylindrical, robust; third antennomere longer than fourth, about twice as long as scape, antennomeres shortening slightly in length successively from fourth through eleventh. Pronotum 1.6 times broader than long, anterior and posterior margins slightly concave; disc with uniform fine punctures; lateral tubercle short, blunt, slightly sinuate and directed posteriorly. Scutellum semicircular. Elytra long, narrow, gradually separated on suture after basal fourth; lateral margins subparallel; elytral surface with deep and coarse punctures, base without granules, apical margin rounded, sutural angle without spine; Mesosternum with intercoxal process slightly elevated. Posterior margin of terminal sternite slightly concave. Legs short, stout; mesotibia with an oblique groove near external apex, metafemur not exceeding second abdominal segment.
Material examined. Holotype (deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing), female, Tianchi, Jianfengling (Alt. 760 m, 18° 7ʹ N, 108° 8ʹ E), Ledong, Hainan, 14 April 1980, collected by Fu-ji Pu.
Discussion. This species shares the same characteristic of rounded elytral apices with M. annulicornis , while other known species of this genus have a spined sutural angle. It can be distinguished from M. annulicornis by its black antenna fringed ventrally throughout; pronotum with lateral tubercles blunt, directed posteriorly; elytral disc without granules.
Distribution. China (Hainan).
