( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 )
Polypedilum View in CoL sp.: Sasa and Hasegawa, 1983: 326.
Polypedilum tananense Sasa et Hasegawa, 1988: 230 View in CoL .
Pentapedilum iriodeeum Sasa et Suzuki, 2000: 13 View in CoL . syn. n. Polypedilum (Polypedilum) iriodeeum: Oyewo and Saether, 2008: 135 .
Material examined. Holotype, male ( NSMT. 064:041), JAPAN: Tanae, Miyako Island, Okinawa, 2.III.1982, H. Hasegawa (emerged from a bottom mud); Urauchi, Iriomote Island, Okinawa, 29.III.1980, 19 males, light trap, I. Kanazawa; as previous except, 20.IV.1998, 37 males, sweep net, M. Yamamoto; as previous except, 17– 20. XI.2001, 16 males,; Kabira, Ishigaki Island, 24.VI.2005, 2 males, sweep net, M. Yamamoto and N. Yamamoto; holotype of Pentapedilum iriodeeum , male ( NSMT. 385:062), Kuira River, Funauki, Iriomote Island, Okinawa, 3. VII. 1999, H. Suzuki.
Remarks. The wing markings were overlooked in the original description of Pentapedilum iriodeeum . Furthermore, in their description, Sasa and Suzuki (2000) mistakenly described and drew the wing with a few macrotrichia on the extreme apical area. Although they recognized the presence of the bulging superior volsella, Oyewo and Saether (2008) transferred the species to the genus Polypedilum (Polypedilum) based on the wing membrane lacking macrotrichia. The above-mentioned characters, the stout anal point and other characters are identical with those of Polypedilum (Tripodura) tananense Sasa et Hasegawa, 1988 . Consequently we judge that Pentapedilum iriodeeum should be sunk to a junior synonym of Polypedilum (Tripodura) tananense .
The species was described by Sasa and Hasegawa (1983, 1988) from Miyako Island based on material emerged from bottom mud collected from a clean stream. However, we were unable to find the clean stream mentioned by them at the type locality or in its surrounds. Nevertheless, we can confirm that a number of individuals of this species emerged from mangrove both in Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands, the Ryukyus. The type locality of Pentapedilum iriodeeum is an area where mangrove is well developed. For this reason, we think that the larvae of this species live in brackish water.
