Fig. 6 View Figs

Diagnosis. Appearance similar to C. bicolor and C. purpuricephalus , but overall color darker; color pattern muted; elytra only slightly lighter at base than posteriorly, color change gradual; anterior pronotal angles forming rounded right angle, not acute; pronotal punctation sparser.

Description. Length 1.6 mm. Color of head, pronotum and basal ¼ of elytra redbrown; elytral apices darker redbrown; sterna, coxae, femora, palpi and antennal stems light redbrown, tibiae and tarsi lighter brown, antennal club dark brown with moderately dense white pubescence; eyes black. Body shiny; head, pronotum, and elytra with minute reticulate microsculpturing. Setation sparse, short, golden, suberect. Head with dorsolateral punctures elongate and fused, forming 8–9 strong longitudinal grooves beginning between antennal insertion and clypeus, extending posteriad beyond midpoint of eyes, and terminating before posterior margin of head; medial punctures becoming larger and more elongate basally. Eyes coarsely faceted. Mandibles large, bearing one well developed apical tooth and one feeble, weakly projecting rounded subapical tooth. Labrum rectangular, dorsal surface rugulose, anterior border weakly margined; clypeus shinier than frons, lacking reticulate microsculpturing, swollen, emarginate laterally and apically; with sparse evenly spaced setiferous punctures; frontoclypeal suture strongly arcuate. Antennomere III 33 long as wide, IV 1.53 length of V and gradually swollen distally, V–VII submoniliform, VIII diskshaped, X 1.33 length of IX, IX and X forming compact oval club. Pronotum ( Fig. 6 View Figs ) with anterolateral corners square, not acute; median longitudinal carina weak; punctures shallow, some lateral punctures oval to teardropshaped, with defined posterior border and gradual anterior edge; posterior and lateral edges margined. Prosternum with large, dense irregular punctures, punctures about ¼ width of prosternal process between coxae; prosternal process strongly emarginate distally. Mesosternum with large, dense punctures medially, mesosternal process inflexed; mesepisternum with one large oval puncture ⅔ width mesepisternum. Metasternum with dense row of conjoined punctures along posterior margin in transverse groove opposite metathoracic coxae and an anterior row of 6–7 large discrete punctures opposite each mesothoracic coxa; 5–6 medium sized punctures in anterolateral area of metasternum; medial area shiny with a few setiferous punctules; anterior edge with broad margin opposite mesothoracic coxa, metasternal suture complete, not strongly impressed posteriorly, abruptly depressed anteriorly forming pit at anterior margin; intercoxal notch keyholeshaped, with broadly rounded anterior region, abruptly constricted midregion and sides diverging posteriorly; metepisternum with longitudinal row of 6–8 punctures, each nearly equal in width to posterior half of metepisternum. Scutellum ovalchordate, with median carina more prominent in anterior third. Elytron margined basally; humeral calli large, epipleuron sinuate, narrow, extending to posterior margin of abdominal ventrite III. Abdomen with imbricate ventrites, not lying flat in same plane; ventrite I with shallow, irregular punctures; intercoxal process broad at base, narrowly rounded apically, raised medially, with raised margins on anterior and lateral edges; ventrites II–V with row of large conjoined depressions basally and small setiferous punctules distally. Pygidium with pair of elongate oval impunctate elytral binding patches separated by densely punctate column 2–3 punctures wide.

Female. Coxite not examined.

Type Series. Holotype: ♀ ( NMNH) with following label data: ‘‘ Bahamas. Andros I. CDC Farm. Shotgun Coppice . 19.VII.1987. JBrowne. high interior coppice blk. lt. 87–107J’ ’. Paratypes: none.

Etymology. Greek, meaning ‘‘shaded, obscure,’’ in reference to the muted color pattern.

Distribution and Habitat. Known only from the type locality on Andros Island, Bahamas.
