Distribution: India (Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand); cosmopolitan: Asia Minor; Australia; Cyprus; Denmark; Egypt; France; Galapagos; Germany; Iran; Italy (Sicily); Japan; Northern Africa; North America ( USA); South America ( Peru, Ecuador); Spain; Taiwan; and Thailand ( Heinrich 1923; Clarke 1976; Zhang & Li 2005).

Hosts: Larvae have been reported to feed on Cucurbita pepo (Cucurbitaceae) , Abelmoschus esculentus , Abutilon bidentatum , Alcea rosea , Malva parviflora , Malvastrum spicatum (all Malvaceae ), Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae) , and Crataegus (Rosaceae) ( Heinrich 1923; MacKay 1959; Clarke 1976; Bishop & Blood 1978; Bradley et al. 1979; Common 1990; McQuillan 1992; Hamilton & Zalucki 1993; Mensah et al. 2012).
