( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 – 24. 1 )

Heliura hagmanni Zerny, 1931a: 257 . Lectotype hereby designated, female: [ BRAZIL, Pará, Santarém], Taperinha; with two labels: printed label “Taperinha b. Santarem, G. Hagmann” with handwritten date on the underside “ix.’22”, and handwritten label “ Heliura hagmanni Zerny ♀ type ”. One paralectotype, female, with exactly the same labels.

Current combination. Heliura hagmanni Zerny, 1931 .

Condition of the types. Lectotype. Excellent condition, with a tiny rip near apex of right hindwing. Paralectotype. Overall good condition; left hindwing slightly damaged near apex. Tip of left antenna broken.

Remarks. Heliura hagmanni was described from two females. Both types are females and bear exactly the same labels. The specimen illustrated here is designated the lectotype. The paralectotype can be distinguished from the lectotype by the characteristics mentioned above and by the antennae, which are positioned closer to the body in the former specimen.

This species is so far known from females only, which means either that its males are unknown, or that they were described as another species. Heliura Butler, 1876 is a polyphyletic genus (L. R. Pinheiro, unpublished data), but many of the species that seem to be closely related to H. hagmanni show some degree of sexual dimorphism. The correctness of the placement of H. hagmanni in Heliura is being investigated by the senior author.
