Male Length: 18–24 mm; humeral width: 5–7 mm. Body purplishblack. Elytra crossed by a broad, paleyellow band, in which the breadth varies from 4 cm to 8 cm ( Figs 8–15 View FIGURES 8 – 11 View FIGURES 12 – 15 ), but is never as narrow as in E. bimaculata ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ) and the borders less sinuate; antennae with six to seven apical segments ochraceous; ventral surface and legs purplish. Body clothed with pubescence corresponding to ground colour, except on abdomen, where it is somewhat silvery, that on pronotum fairly long and dense.
Body moderately large. Mandibles moderately stout and coarsely punctate, with apex slightly curved to the central line of head ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 21. 16 – 18 ), and lateral surface flattened ( Figs 20–21 View FIGURES 16 – 21. 16 – 18 ). Frons densely punctate; clypeus more sparsely so; vertex fairly broad, feebly concave, grooved medially; antennae barely longer than body, fifth and following segments tricarinate and slightly angulated ectoapically, third segment a little shorter than following two segments combined; pronotum broader than long, constricted apically and basally, bluntly tuberculate laterally, its surface moderately rugulose, but largely hidden by pubescence; scutellum narrowly triangular, concave; elytra conjointly rounded apically, micropunctulate; metepisternum densely punctured; femora more grossly punctate; first metatarsal segment one and onehalf times as long as following two segments together.
Female. Length: 26–29mm; humeral width: 8–9 mm. Similar to male, antennae not quite as long as body.
