Microsargane (Microtholia) subgen.nov.
Type-species: M. karykroua sp.nov.
Etymology. micro- small, tholia (f) comical hat.
Diagnosis. Fused male subgenital plates broader than long, sides notched, presenting a hat-shaped profile ( Figs 56–59 View FIGURES 55 – 60 D); theca bearing 2–6 pairs of filamentous spines from membranous tip ( Figs 56–58 View FIGURES 55 – 60 C).
Description. Orange to brown, usually with pale median stripe on thorax and 2 on each tegmen ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 9 C,F), or almost entirely dark with pale marks only near tegminal tips ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 9 A,D,E). Head narrower than pronotum by at least 0.1 mm; antenna with broad base of basiconic sensillum as in Microclimax ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24 F), its large socket splitting one of the sensory pits; eye transverse in dorsal aspect but globose in lateral aspect, twice as long as lateral margins of pronotum. Tegmina as in Microrhaphe but without transverse pale stripe. Hind tibiae each with double pecten of 9 black-tipped spines (the 2 innermost much smaller than the others), hind tarsal pectens with 6 black-tipped spines on basomere, 7–9 on 2nd tarsomere. Male abdominal segment X short, ringlike; pygofers with noselike process above a process at base of subgenital plates ( Figs 56–58 View FIGURES 55 – 60 A); style with prominent dorsal spine ( Figs 56 View FIGURES 55 – 60 E, 58E); theca curved dorsad at base, shaft laterally compressed, bearing pairs of elongate spines directed laterad, curving basad ( Figs 56–58 View FIGURES 55 – 60 B–C).
Remarks. The five species are readily distinguished by color and male genitalia. M. sobria sp. nov. externally resembles dark specimens of the nominate subgenus but the male genitalia are characteristic of this new subgenus.
