REMARKS: See Voss and Jansa (2009) for a morphological diagnosis. This taxon represents a very long branch that is consistently recovered as the sister lineage of Didelphinae View in CoL in phylogenetic analyses of multilocus sequence datasets (e.g., by Voss and Jansa, 2009; Amador and Giannini, 2016).
