Taxonomic notes. Described originally as a species of Geophilus View in CoL , it was assigned subsequently to either Linotaenia or Scolioplanes View in CoL , then to Strigamia View in CoL by Crabill (1953). It was recorded repeatedly, and its validity never questioned. A subspecies Scolioplanes maritimus japonicus was later recognized as a distinct species (see under S. japonica View in CoL ).

Distribution: coasts of northern Europe, from Brittany, through the British Isles, to Scandinavia.
