MycoBank: MB836098; GenBank: MT741783 View Materials
Etymology: — The specific epithet jejuense refers to the collection site in Jeju Island.
Holotype: — KOREA. JEJU. SEOGWIPO: Leeseungak, on soil (33.337177, 126.626613), 30 July 2019, S. H. Lee , JBRI-M19-946 . GoogleMaps
Diagnosis: — This species can be distinguished from other Trichoglossum species by thick, 8-spored asci, and 15–16 septate ascospores.
Description: — Ascomata 30.53–42.35 mm long, clavate, dry, and black ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 and 4A View FIGURE 4 ). Fertile heads 4.28–7.16 × 2.23–4.20 mm, distinctly separated from the stipe, globose to spathulate, black, densely setose ( Fig. 4C and 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Sterile stipes 25.79–37.65 × 0.51–1.31 mm, cylindrical, slender, straight or curved, tapered at the base or equal, concolorous with fertile head, densely setose, and tough ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ). Asci 186–254 × 23–31 µm, oval, rounded at the tip, with eight spores parallel in each ascus ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ). Ascospores 109–182 × 6–8 µm, cylindrical, rodlike, rounded at the tip, with 15–16 septa ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ). Paraphyses 2–8 × 131–189 µm, filiform, widely divided by septa, somewhat curved at the tip, sometimes branched ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ). Setae 9–19 × 247–335 µm, tapered at the tip, pointed or rounded, and black ( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 ).
Habitat: — The new species spreads by scattering on the soil. Leeseungak, the collection site for the new species, is covered by both evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved trees. Notably, deciduous broad-leaved trees dominated the sampling spot.
Distribution: — Only recorded in South Korea.
