Eidmanniella pellucida (Rudow, 1869) View in CoL ( Figures 1–5)
Host: Phalacrocorax aristotelis .
Material investigated: 19♀♀, 6♂♂, 1N.
Female: Medium-sized, the body is well chitinized ( Figure 1).
Head: Proportionally to its length, it is wider. The inner middorsal head seta is small. The antenna has 4 segments. The last antenna segment is cylindrical; proportionally to its width, it is longer. In the temporal region, there are 4 very long setae. The occipital setae are very long. The gular plate shows homogeneous and weak pigmentation; it is a bit narrower towards the back. The hypopharyngeal sclerite is underdeveloped ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 ).
Thorax: The prosternal plate is Y- or glass-shaped, tapered in the posterior, and pointed at the end. The pronotum marginally has 16 setae (14–17); the 1st, 3rd, and 5th setae located in the anterolateral are spine-like. The posterolateral edge of the metanotum has 17–18 setae; 3 of the setae in the lateral are spine-shaped. The metasternal plate has 30–38 setae ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 ).
Abdomen: Marginal tergal setae distribution is I–VII, 26–30; VIII, 18–20. There is no anterior tergal seta. The postspirocular setae in the II and VIII segments are longer than the ones in I. On the posterior edge, there are 10– 11 spines with a special structure. While there is a single row of setae in the medial of the first abdominal stemitis, the setae rows are irregular in the others. Sternal setae distribution is as follows: I, 7–8; II, 38–40; III, 46–51; IV, 92–97; V, 93–96; VI, 87–90; VII, 54–60. The ventral fringe of the anus carries 62–65 setae.
Male: Similar to the female, but smaller ( Figure 4). Sternal seta distribution is different from the female and there are generally fewer setae. The male genitalia are shown in Figure 5 View Figure 5 .
Values are given in mm, except head index (head length: head width).
