Type material. Holotype: ♂, Dominican Republic, Independencia, Sierra de Neiba, Piste la Descubierta à Anecito Martinez Km 32, 1750m, 13-V-2004, B. Vincent leg. prep gen BV 448, Barcode ID ARCTD 261-12, Sample ID BEVI1566. Deposited in MNHN.

Additional material. Paratypes. 1♂, same data as holotype, BVC .

Description. Head. Antenna bipectinate, light brown with darker pectinations. Frons brown, vertex light brown with the central area darker. Palpi erected brown.

Thorax. Patagias light brown with the central area slightly darker. Pterygodes light brown with the exception of the base and the inner edge brown.

Thorax light brown dorsally with the median area darker. Ventrally gray with the exception of the prosternum brown. Legs whitish with brown areas.

Forewing. (Lenght: 16 mm; Wingspan: 35mm). Dark brown towards the costa, very light brown towards the inner edge. Veins yellowish. Small brown reniform spot with the central area whitish. Presence of a series of bands organized as follows: an irregular basal band, complete, white and underlined with brown; a complete median band, slightly curved, a little wider towards the costa. It relies on the reniform spot; a complete postmedian band, narrower, slightly curved and a complete subterminal band, sinusoidal. Near the fringe, between the veins A5 and M1, presence of a small black spot. Fringe brown.

Hindwing. Gray with the exception of the whitish terminal area.

Ventrally, the marks are slightly less contrasted.

Abdomen. Grayish dorsally, whitish ventrally.

Male Genitalia. identical to L. desotoi n. sp. excepted the following differences:

Protuberance at the apex of valvae very small and scarcely sclerotized; apex of the valvae not reaching the apex of the uncus; uncus subtriangular without bulge at its insertion with the tegumen.

Female and early stages: Unknown

Etymology. The specific epithet, occidentalis , refers to the geographical location of the taxon at the western tip of the Dominican Republic.

Distribution. Lophocampa occidentalis n. sp. is known only from the Sierra de Neiba located at the western tip of the Dominican Republic, near the Haitian border. The type locality of Lophocampa occidentalis n. sp. is identi- cal to Lophocampa lesieuri, Vincent, 2005 and very close to that of Caribojosia youngi Rawlins & Miller, 2008 . Additional information on the Sierra de Neiba including photographs of the habitats are represented in Rawlins & Miller (2008; figs 14 A–D).
