Diagnosis. Cerci usually not reaching beyond lower margin of epandrium; surstylus not longer than distiphallus in lateral view ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20 – 27 ); distal emargination of basal part of hypandrium only shallow ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 20 – 27 ); distiphallus conspicously long, markedly dilated apically ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20 – 27 ).
Distribution. S. americana occurs over a large area in Alaska, Canada, and northernmost United States.
