Croton blanchetianus Baillon (1864:301) View in CoL .
— Oxydectes blanchetiana (Baill.) Kuntze (1891:611) .
Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Bahia: without further locality, 1840, J.S. Blanchet 3094 (P [P00623615!] ; isolectotypes:A [A00257891!], BR [BR0000008550774!], C [C 10011159!], F [F0077750F!], G [G00434455!, G00434456!, G00311389!], K [K000186158!, K000186159!], MA [MA249946!], NY [NY00246515!], P [P00623612!, P00623613!, P00623614!], TUB [TUB009093!] ).
Croton alagoensis Müller Argoviensis (1873: 121) .— Oxydectes alagoensis (Müll.Arg.) Kuntze (1891: 613) . Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Alagoas: without further locality, 1838, G. Gardner 1401 (G [G00434407!]; isolectotypes: A [A00047220!], F [F0077751F!], G [G00434406!], K [K000253585!, K000253584!, K000253586!], NY [NY00246505!, NY00246506!], P [P00623654!, P00623655!, P00623656!]).
Notes: —Gomes et al. (2010) indicated a specimen from P as holotype and others at P as isotypes of C. blanchetianus , however they made no reference to the barcode of these exsiccates. The present study brings a new interpretation of the typification of C. blanchetianus , which was proposed by Baillon (1864) based on Blanchet 3094, a collection from two herbaria designated by the author as “Mus. et Less.”. According to Stafleu & Cowan (1976) and also as noted by Rossine et al. (2020a) in another species of Croton, Mus. refers to the P herbarium and Less. to the Delessert herbarium, a collection currently belonging to G. Thus, it led us to conclude that C. blanchetianus was based on two syntypes and thus requires a lectotype. Four specimens of Blanchet 3094 consistent with the protologue were found in P and three in G. Here, the specimen P623615 is designated as the lectotype for being in good condition and presenting open pistillate flowers, an important character for the identification of the taxon.
Müller Argoviensis (1873) described Gardner 1401 as the type when he published C. alagoensis . The collections originally examined by Müller Argoviensis are deposited mainly at G ( Stafleu & Cowan 1981), where two specimens from the mentioned type collection are found, thus, it is necessary to designate one of them as lectotype. Although the sheet G434406 seems better preserved, here we select the sheet G434407 as lectotype, since it has open flowers of both sexes.
