Blanchet 3655 (P [P00623634!]; isolectotypes: A [A00257884!], BR [BR0000008553249!], F [F0056105F!], FI [FI011642!], G [G00434465!, G00434464!], K [K000185987!], P [P00623633!]).
Croton milleri Johnston (1905: 690) . Lectotype (designated here):— VENEZUELA. Nueva Esparta: Isla de Margarita, El Valle, 10 August 1903, J.R. Johnston 48 (GH [GH 00047196!]; isolectotypes: K [K000574059!], M [M0242067!], NY [NY00262922!], US [ US 01050279!]). Remaining syntypes:— VENEZUELA. Nueva Esparta: Isla de Margarita , El Valle, 18 July 1901, O.O. Miller & J.R. Johnston 229 (BM [BM001011734!], NY [NY00262921!], P [P00623632!], RSA [ RSA 0002672!]).
Notes: —When proposing C. nervosus var. villosus, Klotzsch (1843b) designated Schomburgk 44 as the type collection, without mentioning an herbarium where it was deposited. It is possible that the specimen examined by Klotzsch belonged to B, where the author worked ( Stafleu & Cowan 1979), and was destroyed during the Second World War, for it is not found there anymore. Because of this, it is necessary to designate a lectotype. Three duplicates of Schomburgk 44 were found in G, two in K and one in E. The specimen G434603 is designated here as lectotype because of its open staminate and pistillate flowers and for being in good conservation state.
Croton argyroglossus was described by Baillon (1864) based on Blanchet 3655. Two specimens from this collection are found in P, the herbarium where type collections of Baillon are deposited ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976). Thus, lectotypification is necessary. The P 623634 specimen is determined here as a lectotype because it is better preserved. Croton milleri was described by Johnston (1905) with the syntypes O.O. Miller & J.R. Johnston 229 and J.R. Johnston 48, so this name also needs to be lectotypified. The specimens originally examined by Johnston are deposited in GH, NY and US, according to Stafleu & Cowan (1976), and there we found specimens of Johnston 48, which is selected here as lectotype. We selected the sheet GH00047196 as lectotype based on its good state of conservation and for agreeing closely with the description of the protologue.
