Subfamily Psepheninae

This subfamily is distributed predominately in the New World. Only one genus, Mataeopsephus , occurs in the Oriental region. Larvae have exposed abdominal gills, each of which has branches that arise from a central stalk ( Fig. 14 ). Larvae are found on rocks and gravel in streams. Adults are found on rocks in riffles. We collected the first records of this genus from Thailand (Map E).
