Basionym:— Aspidium boryanum Willdenow (1810: 285) .

Type:— LA RÉUNION. Grands bois a Bourbon, J. B. G. M. Bory de St.-Vincent 76 ( holotype B-W-19831-010!, isotype P-00483051!).

Heterotypic synonyms:— Dryopteris waiwaiensis Christensen (1905: 300) , nom. nov. for Polypodium alsophiloides Baker (1879: 297) , not P. alsophiloides Liebmann (1849: 208) . Ctenitis waiwaiensis (C. Chr.) Brownlie (1977: 303) . Type:— FIJI. 1877, J. Horne 645 ( holotype K-001089229!, isotype BISH-1613972, not seen).

Taxonomic notes: —The generic assignment of Ctenitis waiwaiensis (C. Christensen) Brownlie has also been controversial ( Brownlie 1977, Holttum 1985, Brownsey & Perrie 2011). Brownlie (1977) thought that its appearance was more suggestive of Hypolepis Bernhardi (1805: 34) , while Holttum (1985) regarded it as a member of Dryoathyrium Ching (1941: 79) , but Holttum (1985) did not officially transfer it to Dryoathyrium [= Deparia Hooker & Greville (1829: 154) , Sano et al. 2000]. Upon examining the types and additional specimens of related names, we conclude that it is a heterotypic synonym of Deparia boryana (Willdenow) M. Kato ( Athyriaceae ). This species widely occurs in Africa, China ( Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Taiwan, SE Xizang, Yunnan, and Zhejiang), Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Fiji ( He et al. 2013).
