The characteristic of the representatives of this family is to have their reproductive organs sited on the side of the primaries ( i.e., on the side of the first order of laterals). This feature was termed the goniosporate type by Granier and Bucur ( Granier et al., 2013a, 2013b). We assume that the organogenus Terquemella Munier-Chalmas ex L. & J. Morellet, which refers to isolated reproductive organs consisting of groups of cysts ( Fig. 5 View Fig a-b), corresponds to skeletal remains of large Bornetellacean algae. Terquemellas are part of all algal assemblages .
