Pterygosoma adramitana Jack, 1961: 244 , fig. 3.

Redescription. FEMALE (3 syntypes). Gnathosoma Cheliceral base 100–105 long (80–105 long in 15 specimens from type host from Saudi Arabia), cheliceral shaft 125–140 (115–140) long (cheliceral shaft always 1.3–1.5 times longer than base). Fixed cheliceral digit as in Figs. 10 View FIGURE 10 E and 13B, about 20 (20) long, with numerous tines. Movable cheliceral digit with basal spur. Palpal femur and palp genu with smooth setae dG and dF, equal in the length, 30– 35 (45–50) long. Palpal tibia with 3 smooth setae and slender claw. Palpal tarsi with 4 smooth setae. Subcapitulum with setae n, 15–20 (15–20) long. Free lateral part of peritremal branch 40–70 (30–40) long. Hypostome 160–170 long, with rounded or slightly flattened apex ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 D). Idiosoma 565–685 (520–670) long

and 1105–1145 (1000–1205) wide. Dorsum ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 A and 13A). Anterior part of idiosoma with 7–8 pairs of slightly serrated setae arranged in 2 groups: mesal group consisting of 4–5 setae, 20–25 (15–20) long, and lateral group consisting of 2–4 setae, 15–35 long. Medial part of idiosoma with 4 pairs of dorso-median setae: dm1 slightly serrated, about 50 (55) long, dm2–dm4 paddle-shaped, 85 (80–115), 40 (50–55), and 55 (45–50) long, respectively. Postero-lateral part of idiosoma with 7 pairs of paddle-shaped setae, 90–110 (95–135) long. Eyes absent. Venter ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 B) with 3 pairs of filiform ventro-median setae vm1–vm3. Genital slit situated mainly dorsally. Genital series represented by 4 pairs of spin-like setae g1–g4. Pseudoanal setal series represented by 1 pair of spin-like setae ps1, 25 long, and 4 pairs of paddle-shaped setae ps2–5, 50–90 long. Setae ps1–4 situated ventrally, ps5 dorsally. Legs. Coxal setation: 1a, 1b, 2b, 3a, 3b arranged in formula 2–1–2–0, all setae filiform; setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1– 1–1), femora I–IV (3–1–1–1), genua I–IV (2[3]–0–0–1), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3). All setae on each prodomers filiform, except for slightly plumose setae: dFI–III. Setation of tarsi: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω 1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω 1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’, tc”, a’, a” of leg I represented by eupathidia, p’ and p” fan-like. Setae tc’ of legs II–IV and setae vs’, vs” of legs I–IV slightly serrated, setae it’, it”, u’, u” of legs I–IV smooth.

MALE (6 specimens from type host from Saudi Arabia). Gnathosoma as in Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 C. Cheliceral base 70–80 long, cheliceral shaft 75–85 long. Fixed cheliceral digit 10–15 long with numerous apical tines. Movable cheliceral digit with small basal spur. Free lateral part of peritremal branch about 20–25 long. Idiosoma 330–395 long and 570–650 wide. Dorsum ( Figs. 11 View FIGURE 11 A). Anterior part of idiosoma with 6–7 pairs of slightly serrated setae arranged in 2 groups: mesial group of 4–5 setae, 10–20 long, lateral group of 4 setae, 15–35 long. Medial part of idiosoma with 3 pairs of dorso-median setae: dm1 slightly serrated, 25–35 long, dm2–dm3 slightly apically expanded, 20–30 long. Postero-lateral part of idiosoma with 5–7 pairs of setae 60–70 long. Eyes present. Aedeagus about 145–180 long, directed forward; genital anal opening with 1 pair of filiform setae and one pair of spin-like inconspicuous setae. Venter ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 B) with 3 pairs of filiform ventro-median setae vm1–vm3. Legs as in female.

Type material examined: 3 syntypes (NHM No. 1966: 02: 22: 775–779) ex Acanthocercus adramitana (1903: 03: 6: 1–5) from Schaf, Arabia.

Non type material examined: 2 females from Acanthocercus adramitanus (Anderson) ( CAS 145377), SAUDI ARABIA: Wadi Mahra, 19º38’N, 42º38’E, 5 July 1976, coll. J. Gasperetti; 3 females and 2 males from same host ( CAS 145308) and locality, 5 July 1977, coll. J. Gasperetti; 4 females and 3 males from same host ( CAS 145310) and locality, 4 July 1977, coll. J. Gasperetti; 3 females from same host ( CAS 144206), SAUDI ARABIA: Hijla, 18º25’N, 42º5’E, February–March 1977, coll. M. al Mefrih; 1 female and 1 male from same host ( CAS 144205) and locality, February–March 1977, coll. M. al Mefrih; 2 females from same host ( CAS 136530), SAUDI ARABIA: Barahard 20º21’N, 41º15’E, 9 August 1973, coll: J. Gasperetti.

Material deposition. 7 females and 3 males in ZISP, 7 females and 3 males in AMU.

Remarks. Comparison of freshly collected Pterygosom adramitana with three female syntypes shows that our specimens differ only by the presence of slightly serrated antero-dorsal setae (vs. presence of setae with barely discernible serration in syntypes). In the original description of P. adramitana by Jack (1962a, 1964) we mentioned some inaccuracies: setae vs of tarsi I are paired (vs. unpaired setae vs in Jack’s description), four pairs of genital setae are present (vs. three pairs) all postero-lateral setae are inserted dorsally (vs. three pairs of ventrally inserted setae) and setae vGI in one syntype are absent (vs. presence of vGI). Additionally, examination of males shows that the genital-anal opening bears two pairs of setae not mentioned in the original description of the species.
