I-Leg ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 11 ); I-Leg-5 dL 205 (196), vL 139 (131), dL/Vl 1.48 (1.49), HB 60 (56), dL/HB 3.4 (3.5), S-1 L 86 (86), L/ W 9.5 (9.5), S-2 L 82 (81), L/ W 6.03 (6.0), distance of sword setae at I-Leg-5 21 (21), L S-1/2 1.05 (1.06); I-Leg-6 L 141 (134), HB 22 (22), L/HB 6.4 (6.1); L I-Leg-5/6 1.45 (1.46).
Discussion. With its combination of a lineated dorsal integument, genital field with relatively small acetabula (diameter <45 μm), a strong sexual dimorphism of P-2, a narrow S-1 and S-2 interspace and thickened I-Leg-6 (I-Leg-6 L/HB <6.0 in male, <6.5 in female), Atractides hyrcaniensis sp. nov. is similar to A. fonticolus ( Viets, 1920) (Western Palaearctic). It differs from A. fonticolus (in parentheses data taken from Gerecke 2003) in the more distant S-1 and -2 (12 μm in male, 13 μm in female), in more slender S-2 of I-Leg- 5 (3.9 in male, 4.3 in female), in distinctly shorter I-Leg-5 and consequently a lower L ratio I-Leg-5/6 of <1.5 (ratio I-Leg-5/6> 1.6). A. hyrcaniensis sp. nov. should be considered a rheophilous species, possibly with a tendency to colonize higher order stream sectors, while A. fonticolus is crenobiont or at least crenophilous (Gerecke 2003).
Etymology. The species is named after ancient Hyrcania (lands south of the Caspian Sea - "Land of the Wolves")
Distribution. Golestan Province (NE Iran).
