Diagnosis. Clypeus wider than long, more transverse; clypeus touching the eyes for an extension equal than width of antennal socket; midlength gena equal to wider than eye; genal margin usually scarcely sinuate below middle, ventrally bending upwards and running in an almost straight line towards mandibles; humeri pronounced; pronotum with apical whitish yellow band, usually incomplete and stronger in the middle; pronotal keel with a whitish yellow band; without pronotal fovea; scrobal furrow with more or less regular carinae metanotum compressed; central tubercle of metanotum stronger; metanotum nearly always entirely black or with small yellow spots on the sides; first metasomal segment wider than long; second metasomal segment as long as wide. Chartergus metanotalis is structurally very close to C. artifex but on the average a little smaller, the clypeus and propodeum are usually more coarsely sculptured; and it differs from C. globiventris in the much stronger metanotal tubercle.
