Abbreviated Description. Conspicuous dense indumentum of pale stellate hairs, leaflets 4–5 pairs, 5–10 cm long, opposite, usually oblanceolate, apex obtuse to rounded, base truncate or cordate, inflorescence 2–4 cm long, a densely flowered thyrse, petals 5, free, 4–5 mm long, slightly imbricate, filaments united 1/3–1/2 their length, anthers 10, nectary annular; ovary 3-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, fruit ca. 1 cm long, 3-valved, ovoid to globose, densely stellate hairy, valves with 1–2 collateral seeds, seed with apical and adaxial arillode.

Field Characters. Shrub or small tree to 15 m high; flowers cream, with orange staminal tube, fragrant; capsule greenish-tan to reddish, containing orange seeds. Flowering mostly November to March, fruiting mostly April to September.

Distribution & Ecology. Southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia, in dry semi-deciduous forest, savanna woodland and cerrado, gallery forest which may be seasonally flooded, chaparral.

BOLIVIA. Beni: Prov. Cercado, 11 km NW of Trinidad (SW1464), Solomon et al. 8149 (K). Santa Cruz: Prov. Angel Sandoval, Comunidad San Fernando (SW1758), Saldias et al. 5210 (K).

PARAGUAY. Amambay: Bella Vista (SW2256), W. Hahn et al. 1277 (K); Concepción: Paso Horqueta to Estáncia San Fernando (SW2257), Zardini & Guerrero 39831 (K).
