Placement of thisspecies in Brunia subg. Raspalia isbased on morphological data as anther morphology, 5- to 10-colporate pollen grains, stamens included, petal morphology, appressed to partly imbricate leaves, and inflorescence size; the species was not included in the DNA analysis.
