Recognition. Many L. neglectus can be recognized readily by the presence of dark scales in the usually yellowish dorsal vestiture. Specimens with rather uniform grey scales occur along the western edge of the distribution of the species ( Fig. 75 View Figs ) and can be confused with L. tonsilis and L. finitimus . In female L. neglectus , the almost perfectly parallel-sided rostrum is of diagnostic value. Male L. neglectus tend to have the apical portion of the rostrum less compressed than the other two species and typically possess very short prosternal spines, which are always absent in L. tonsilis . The ventral margin of the scrobe is visible in dorsal view and distinguishes L. neglectus from L. finitimus , L. tonsilis , and similar Neotropical species. The size range is 2.9–4.5 mm.
Distribution. This species occurs in the central and eastern United States and extends south to Panama ( Fig. 75 View Figs ).
