Distribution. Western Atlantic—Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná) and Argentina. Eastern Pacific— USA (California) to Colombia. Indo-West Pacific— Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zeland ( Rathbun 1925; Garth 1958; Webber & Wear 1981; Furota & Furose 1988; Melo et al. 1989; Furota 1996; Hendrickx 1999; Schejter et al. 2002; Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2004; Ahyong 2005; Spivak et al. 2019).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Bertini & Fransozo 2004; Bertini et al. 2004, 2010) and Caraguatatuba ( Braga et al. 2005). This is an invasive species native to northeastern Pacific Ocean with a broad historical introduction in Brazil, Argentina, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zeland ( Webber & Wear 1981; Furota & Furose 1988; Ahyong 2005; McLay 2009).
