Eugenia calcadensis Beddome (1872
status

1. Eugenia calcadensis Beddome (1872 View in CoL : cx).

Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Calcad hills, South Tinnevelly, elev. 2000 ft., Beddome 2923 (BM! [barcode BM000944119 ]; isolectotype MH). Remaining syntype:— Beddome 2924 (BM! [ BM000944118 ]).

= Syzygium calcadense (Bedd.) Chandrabose View in CoL in Sharma et al. (1977: 57).

Distribution:— India [Kerala, Tamil Nadu]; ca. 600 m.

Notes:—The basionym was mistakenly transferred to Syzygium by Chandrabose in studies on the Flora of Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu by Sharma et al. (1977). Eugenia calcadensis Beddome is hairy vegetatively and has the axillary inflorescences that are typical of Eugenia species, in contrast with terminal inflorescences more common to Syzygium . No type specimen was designated in the protologue and of the two specimens in Beddome’s herbarium at BM, the number 2923 was chosen because it matches a specimen at MH believed to be original material.
