15. Syzygium densiflorum Wallich ex Wight & Arnott (1834: 329) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Neelgherries, Wight Catalogue Number 1070 (E! [barcode E00174624]). Remaining syntype:— Wallich Catalogue Number 3601 (n.v.).
= Eugenia arnottiana Wight (1841: 17) View in CoL , nom. illeg. = Syzygium arnottianum Walpers (1843: 180) View in CoL , nom. illeg. Type:— INDIA. Neelgherries, April 1851, Herb. Wight 1039 (holotype K!).
Distribution:— India [Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu]; 1000–1500 m.
Notes:— Wallich Catalogue Number 3601 was not found in the major herbaria visited and Wight Catalogue Number 1070 was chosen as the lectotype, given that it was cited by Wight and Arnott (1834) in their Prodromus Florae Peninsulae Indiae Orientalis. Eugenia arnottiana Wight is illegitimate because Wight cited the earlier name ‘ Syz. densiflorum W. & A.’ as a synonym ( McNeill et al. 2012, Article 52.1), incorrectly claiming that “De Candolle’s Jambosa densiflora claims precedence in the name”. Walpers’ later adoption of the same epithet, based on the same name, is illegitimate for the same reason.
