Etymology: The name is derived from the Latin punctatus , dotted, in reference to the cuticular punctures.

Holotype: M-2232 ( Figs 3–5 View Figure 3 View Figure 4 View Figure 5 ), Ettore Morone collection, Turin, Italy (available through the AMNH), male, adult; specimen entirely preserved and observable dorsally and ventrally; the piece is a transparent, orange in colour, 23 mm × 11 mm in largest dimensions; without syninclusions.
