Ambrosiophilus atratus (Eichhoff)

Xyleborus atratus Eichhoff, 1876: 201 View in CoL .

Xyleborus collis Niisima, 1910: 12 View in CoL . syn. n.

Taxonomy: Type specimens of Xyleborus collis View in CoL could not be located in the NIAES collection so the synonymy is based on Niisima’s description (in German). The size and form of X. collis View in CoL is nearly a perfect match to that of A. atratus in MSUC and RAB except for the elytral declivital striae which are stated to have long hairs and the interstriae short hairs. In our experience this pattern of setae does not exist among Xyleborini . We note that Niisima in the previous phrase of his description stated that the interstriae had especially long hairs at the apex and believe that the reversal of this in the following phrase is a typological error.
