Diagnosis. Recognizable by having legs dark, pronotal basal angles rounded, elytra shiny and glabrous, with nearly isodiametric microsculpture on disc in baso-medial portion, with finely punctate striae and with two lateral intervals punctate. Additional distinctive characters are: protibia with two ventroapical spines in a transverse row and with not dentate apical spur (as in Figs 1–3), metafemur with four to six setigerous pores along posterior margin, mesotarsomere 1 of male without adhesive vestiture underneath, internal sac of median lobe of aedeagus with a group of rather long spines (occasionally only one spine present) at about the middle of the right side of the median lobe ( Figs 48–49 View FIGURES 48 – 51 ). Body length 10.5–13.1 mm.
Distribution. China: mostly in the eastern part. The species was previously known from Liaoning, Hebei, Nei Mongol, Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu ( Kataev et al. 2003; Liang & Huang 2013); we also examined specimens from Beijing, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Guizhou. Additional material from Anhui, Hebei, Hubei and Henan is also given. The species is recorded from Zhejiang, Hunan and Guizhou for the first time.
The species is also distributed in North and South Korea including Jejudo, and Japan (Honshu) ( Habu 1977; Kataev 1997; Kataev et al. 2003; Moon & Paik 2006).
Remarks. The synonymization of H. kailiensis (described from two specimens from Kaili, Guizhou), Harpalus cilihumerus (described from two specimens from Anyue, Sichuan) and H. adenticulatus (described from two specimens from Beibei, Chongqing and Ya'an, Sichuan) with H. davidi is based on the examination of the original descriptions and the paratypes of all three Huang’s species.
