( Figs. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 14 , 23, 24 View FIGURES 23 – 28 )
Type material. Holotype, 3, KENYA, Aberdares Nat. Park, Ruhuruini Gate, 3.iv.2000, electric fence, alt. 2334 m, 0 0o 23’ S 36o49’ E (H6), leg. Ugo Dall’Asta, genitalia slide 2008.019 L. Aarvik ( RMCA).
Description. Adult ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 14 ). Wingspan 17.0 mm. Head: White except brown scales along posterior edge of eye. Antenna blackish brown, scape white. Labial palpus 2 times diameter of eye, externally dark brown, on dorsal edge white, third segment nearly concealed by scaling of second segment; broadly triangular in lateral view. Thorax: White; tegulae brownish ochreous. Legs brownish grey, tarsi with paler rings. Forewing upperside with basal 2/3 brown, on costal half with black suffusion; terminal 1/3 ochreous; on dorsum two white triangular marks, not connected on dorsum; the inner mark reaching to about 1/2 from dorsum, the distal one pointing towards apex, reaching to 2/5 from dorsum; a tiny white dot present just beyond tip of distal white mark; dark scales form scattered, short transverse lines in terminal area. Hind wing upperside grey, cilia lighter than wing surface; pale ochreous hair-pencil from underside from base of hind margin to scale cover on dorsum of abdomen. Abdomen: Fuscous, abdominal brush greyish ochreous. Male genitalia ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 23 – 28 ) with tegumen subtriangular with rounded tip, uncus a distally rounded extension of tegumen, socii weak, setose; valva long and slender, lower edge of sacculus lightly curved, neck of valva narrow, cucullus inverted drop-shaped, rounded on dorsal edge, ventrally gradually narrowing to rounded point; aedeagus ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 23 – 28 ) basally broadly club-shaped, curved, constricted 2/5 from base, slightly widening and straight distally; with 12 nail-shaped cornuti; no carinae.
Diagnosis. M. dallastai and M. agassizi share a thorax which is entirely white, except for the tegulae, but M. dallastai is much larger than M. agassizi . In the male genitalia the long, slender valva with a narrow cucullus separates M. dallastai from other Multiquaestia species.
Distribution. Kenya.
Etymology. The species is named after the collector of the holotype, Dr. Ugo Dall’Asta, curator of Lepidoptera , RMCA.
