(Rubiaceae) in Philipp. J. Sci. 23(3): 267. 1923. TYPE:— CHINA. Hainan: Qiongzhong, 28 April 1922, F. A. McClure 2759 (i.e. Canton Christian College Herbarium 9316) (syntype: PNH, destroyed, A 00096249 image!, NY 00132296 image!, NY 00132297 image!).

Merrill (1923) validly published the name Mussaenda membranifolia Merr. with only one gathering, McClure 9316, cited in the protologue. However, the collecting number on the label of the syntype specimen exists in A is 2759, while its herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9316.Therefore, the erroneous collecting number is to be corrected.
