Description: Dodge (1933).

Notes: Leptogium tuckermanii is characterized by the mineral gray to darker color, smooth surface, apothecia 0.5–0.9 mm diam. with constrict base, margin of apothecia smooth and pale, and amphithecia with pseudoparaplectenchymatous cortex ( Dodge 1933).

Until now, the holotype C. Wright 56 was not found, but the specimen C. Wright 15 from the same locality is in FH herbarium and is the strongest candidate for the neotype. We do not know whether the collection date is the same for both vouchers, since Dodge (1933) did not specify when C. Wright 56 was collected. C. Wright 15 was collected on 1 April 1861.

Leptogium tuckermanii differs from L. cochleatum by the type of upper surface. Leptogium tuckermanii has smooth upper surface and L. cochleatum has distinctly striate upper surface.

Leptogium moluccanum var. denticulatum can be confused with L. tuckermanii , but the first has apothecia with bluish margin and circular wrinkles and L. tuckermanii has apothecia with pale and smooth margins.

Distribution in Brazil: Paraná ( Osorio 1977); Mato Grosso do Sul, in Ponta Porã ( Osorio 1992); and Rio Grande do Sul ( Spielmann 2006).
