Distribution: China (NE), Japan, Taiwan. Imported to Korea (Choo & Woo 1983). [2a]

Hosts: Usually breeding in species of Ulmus and Z elkova ( Ulmaceae ). Nobuchi (1973) records it also from Quercus (Fagaceae) and Prunus (Rosaceae) .

Taxonomy: Recorded from Taiwan as its synonym, Scolytus formosanus Eggers (1939a) .
