Distribution: China (CE, NE, NO, SW), Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Russia (ES, FE), Taiwan. [2a]

Hosts: Bred from Zelkova serrata (Ulmaceae) in Taiwan (LYL). Usually breeding in trees of the families Rosaceae ( Malus, Padus , Prunus , Pyrus ) and Ulmaceae ( Ulmus , Zelkova ). Also recorded from Lonicera (Caprifoliaceae) ( Choo & Woo 1985).

Biology: Niisima (1909) and Michalski (1973) briefly describe the gallery system and biology.

Taxonomy: We follow Michalski (1973) in considering Scolytus confusus Eggers to be a distinct species, contrary to Wood and Bright (1992).
