119. Xyleborus glabratus Eichhoff

Xyleborus glabratus Eichhoff, 1877: 127 .

Distribution: Bangladesh, India, Japan, Taiwan. Imported and established in Eastern U. S. A. ( Rabaglia et al. 2006). [3]

Hosts: The species has an evident preference for the family Lauraceae , and its attacks are apparently restricted to that family in the U. S. A. ( Rabaglia et al. 2006). In the Oriental region, it has also been recorded from Shorea (Dipterocarpaceae) , Lithocarpus (Fagaceae) , and Leucaena (Leguminosae) .

Biology: Various aspects of the biology are described by Hanula et al. (2008). Although not of economic importance in its native range, the species is an invasive pest in the U. S. A. where it transmits a pathogenic fungus to a variety of Lauraceae trees (e.g. Hanula et al. 2008; Fraedrich et al. 2008; Koch & Smith 2008).
