Distribution: Throughout the tropical regions of Africa and Asia to New Guinea, Australia, the Solomon Islands and Samoa. First recorded from Taiwan by Murayama (1934) as its synonym, Xyleborus sexspinosus Motschulsky. [6]

Hosts: Polyphagous ( Browne 1961). Recorded only from Cinnamomum camphora (Lauraceae) in Taiwan (Murayama 1934).

Biology: The biology and gallery system are described by Browne (1961) and Kalshoven (1959).

Taxonomy: This is a very variable species, and several species currently placed in the genus should probably be synonymised with it.
