Xyleborus destruens Blandford, 1896: 221 .

Distribution: From the Andaman Islands, through China (SW), Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines to New Guinea, Australia and the Pacific islands. Originally recorded from Taiwan in timber imported to Japan ( Browne 1980c). The presence of the species in Taiwan can now be confirmed. [4]

New record: Nantou, Neimoupu , funnel trap, 29.vi.2004 (C. S. Lin) (1) .

Hosts: Polyphagous ( Wood &Bright 1992).

Biology: The biology of the species is described by Browne (1961) and Kalshoven (1962). The species is an important pest of teak ( Tectona grandis ) ( Verbenaceae ) in Java and other areas where there is only a short or no dry season ( Browne 1968; Kalshoven 1962).
