Xyleborus validus Eichhoff, 1875: 202 .

Distribution: China (CE, SE, SW), Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam. Nobuchi (1967) lists a number of other countries in the Oriental region, but we have found no evidence that it occurs there. Introduced and established in eastern U. S. A. ( Rabaglia et al. 2006). [2a]

Hosts: Polyphagous, attacking both gymnosperm and angiosperm trees ( Wood & Bright 1992).

Biology: Hijii et al. (1991) briefly characterise the gallery system and the effects of associated fungi on the surrounding wood. Shibata et al. (1994) describe the flight period of the species in Japan.
